KAMY has undertaken various strategic programs to shape the climate justice ecosystem in Malaysia since 2019

CLIMATE COMMUNICATION

Lensa Iklim (Climate Lens)

An impact programme to upskill and empower Malaysian journalists and mainstream news media to improve climate and energy transition reporting. The long-term impact is strengthening climate communication in Malaysia and increasing the public's climate literacy. This programme is a Klima Action Malaysia (KAMY) initiative supported by the European Climate Foundation (ECF).

Climatea (Spilling tea on climate)

KAMY's in-house media production in KAMY to produce climate content and visual materials (e.g. videos, short documentaries, articles, podcasts, infographics, etc.) across our social media platforms. This programme is a Klima Action Malaysia (KAMY) initiative supported by multiple funds throughout the years, such as the Global Greengrants Fund.

PANAS

A previous program in 2021, PANAS is a KAMY consortium with Science Media Centre and the British Council to build capacity of journalist to cover quality IPCC reporting.

INDIGENOUS PEOPLE

Weaving Hopes for the Future

An Indigenous People and Climate programme to empower the Indigenous women and foster Indigenous youth leadership in Peninsula Malaysia on land rights, documenting Indigenous knowledge, participation in governance and gender justice with a robust peacebuilding framework.

MisiBantuOA

#MisiBantuOA is a disaster response intervention to coordinate and centralise the efforts for immediate relief to Orang Asli communities in Peninsular Malaysia, now facing a severe economic and health crisis, as well shortage of supplies due to CMO amid COVID19.

GENDER, WOMEN & CLIMATE

Voice and Visibility

A program to increase women's capacity for alternative climate solutions in Malaysia and multilateral platforms under feminism and environmental justice principles, under the Women Gender Constituency in United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, UNFCCC. This is a consortium of KAMY together with partner IWRAW Asia Pacific supported by Women Fund Asia.

RIGHTS BASED APPROACH & ACCOUNTABILITY

Business and Human Rights

KAMY is appointed as the consultant to head the environmental pillar for the National Baseline Assessment of Business and Human Rights to form the National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights in consortium with AMERBon Advocates under the Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) of the Prime Minister's Department.

Right Based

People's Voice

Under the coalition of civil society, KAMY acts to facilitate the formation of action networks across youth groups, grassroots communities, CSOs and NGOs at the local, national, regional and global levels. It facilitates civil society discussions across the grassroots to understand how the climate crisis affects their work and resistance. Provide a platform based on transparency, representation and inclusion in democratic decision-making to compile comprehensive recommendations, guidance, aspirations and reporting to be presented to governments, policy makers and other stakeholders such as UN treaty bodies

COALITION BUILDING

Gabungan Darurat Iklim Malaysia (GDIMY)

KAMY is one of the founding members of the Gabungan Darurat Iklim Malaysia - GDIMY or "Climate Emergency Coalition of Malaysia". GDIMY is a collective of civil society organisations and the grassroots.

Pertahankan Hutan Simpan Kuala Langat Utara (PHSKLU)

Involved in the planning and strategies formulation, as well as the technical execution and data collection for the "Defend Kuala Langat North Forest Reserve" or PHSKLU as part of the coalition committee. Two weeks after the campaign launch, we have succeeded in lobbying for Motion 26 in Selangor State Legislative Assembly which saw historic unanimous support of all Selangor ADUNs ( elected lawmakers) to protect all forest reserves and water catchments in Selangor, the most developed and populous state in Malaysia.
